JEFFREY NORDSTROM

Good-bye green stompbox.

I bought the Line 6 Green Delay Modeler about 10 years ago. It's been a key element of my "sound" ever since, an essential stompbox I brought to any performance. Since I bought it, I doubt there's a song I've recorded where I haven't used it for one reason or another. It's been glitchy for eight years or so, insofar as it didn't like to start the effect when i'd first turn the stompbox on, and I'd have to mess with a knob to get it thinking "Oh, yeah. I have to make an effect." But apart from that, it did OK.

Just a couple of days ago, I was playing with it, all happy with the tone I'd put together between it and a bunch of other effects. Listen:

I'm really happy with this #guitartone, even with my daughters complaining/fighting in the background. pic.twitter.com/aCkk7mblJ7

And I was all proud of myself for finally replacing all my inconsistent cords, so I took this picture:

But only a few hours later, when I tried to turn it on, it just gave me nothing. I'd turn it off and I'd get a bypass tone, and I'd turn it on and the signal would completely stop. So I had to admit to myself, after years of glitches, years of seeing used green stompboxes with similar complaints on Craigslist ads, that the green stompbox had finally bit the dust. And I removed it from my pedalboard.

My poor pedal board looks so empty w/o the fat, green Line 6 stompbox. But I'm excited about what will replace it. pic.twitter.com/T0D19fzvVn

So what now? I need delay. Delay is just too essential to my tone and sense of well-being that I can't skip out on it.

I. NEED. DELAY.

So here's what I think i'm going to replace it with: the NUX Time Force:
TIME FORCE! RAWR!
It seems like a good replacement. Here's a good bunch of samples:
So I have a plan. Yay.

But the green stombox was BIG. It took up a lot of space. So replacing the green stombox with a smaller one will give me more room to play with on the Pedaltrain.

So I'm thinking that it's time to bring in more synthesizers, namely the EHX C9.

And that will open up room on the @Pedaltrain for this: https://t.co/7U6IUds8f3 #guitareffects

And, perhaps, at a later date, the KEY 9.

And I think I'd even have room on the pedal board for this so I could be a super-soulful guitarist: https://t.co/FGM1R7Smwt

So there. Some technical bad news that might lead to some really good news.

Ba-dum ching.

UPDATE: FEBRUARY 20 2016

Now that the green delay stompbox is dead, these are my plans for maximum guitar tone manipulation. pic.twitter.com/XcJOxoEZyq

Tomsline Aroma ACH-3 review.

I made a review of my first chorus pedal. I ordered it from AliExpress a couple weeks ago. It cost me around $32 CDN, and it sounds OK. Since I couldn't find a review of the specific pedal on YouTube, I made one myself (below.)

The pedal's pretty good, especially considering the price. I've deliberately avoided buying a chorus pedal for the last 20 years because I find them a little too easy and unnecessary. It's the effect boring people use to make their boring music vaguely more interesting. I can't think of many songs that use chorus where I wouldn't prefer a good ol' clean tone.

I like this pedal because it's small. I don't want a chorus effect to be a first choice on my pedalboard, so its size might make it a little easier to ignore.

My colourblindness made me think I was buying a green pedal, but apparently it's pink. That's cool with me, but it was the first time in my life that I've mixed up green and pink, I think.

Yes, I'm fully aware that I'm a boring product reviewer. But the tone's all that matters here.
