Tomorrow, here at the school, is a Professional Development Day, and hundreds of judgemental teachers will pass through the building. Dozens will enter my classroom and quietly judge me based on my classroom's appearance. So I tried to tidy up a little. It's still a mess, but at least it's a little less of a mess.
I bought the Line 6 Green Delay Modeler about 10 years ago. It's been a key element of my "sound" ever since, an essential stompbox I brought to any performance. Since I bought it, I doubt there's a song I've recorded where I haven't used it for one reason or another. It's been glitchy for eight years or so, insofar as it didn't like to start the effect when i'd first turn the stompbox on, and I'd have to mess with a knob to get it thinking "Oh, yeah. I have to make an effect." But apart from that, it did OK.
Just a couple of days ago, I was playing with it, all happy with the tone I'd put together between it and a bunch of other effects. Listen:
And I was all proud of myself for finally replacing all my inconsistent cords, so I took this picture:
But only a few hours later, when I tried to turn it on, it just gave me nothing. I'd turn it off and I'd get a bypass tone, and I'd turn it on and the signal would completely stop. So I had to admit to myself, after years of glitches, years of seeing used green stompboxes with similar complaints on Craigslist ads, that the green stompbox had finally bit the dust. And I removed it from my pedalboard.
So what now? I need delay. Delay is just too essential to my tone and sense of well-being that I can't skip out on it.
I. NEED. DELAY. So here's what I think i'm going to replace it with: the NUX Time Force:
It seems like a good replacement. Here's a good bunch of samples:
So I have a plan. Yay.
But the green stombox was BIG. It took up a lot of space. So replacing the green stombox with a smaller one will give me more room to play with on the Pedaltrain.
So I'm thinking that it's time to bring in more synthesizers, namely the EHX C9.
And, perhaps, at a later date, the KEY 9.
So there. Some technical bad news that might lead to some really good news.
Ba-dum ching.
UPDATE: FEBRUARY 20 2016
I just opened a profile at The Internet Archive. I think it might be a good place to post irregular podcast-like audio; most of my other social media platforms aren't big fans of audio, and I don't want to post bland, one-off stuff to Bandcamp or SoundCloud. It also might be useful for bland footage of places I visit, sort-of like my Panoramio site, but for video.
There's nothing there yet, but it exists.
A few recent reflections from my social media sites.
From Twitter
As I'm working through Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication.
I posted both of the following videos under the same tweet because I thought the first one didn't upload. However, it did, and I think both of them work well together.
From Tumblr
And a display in Abbotsford got me thinking about abortion yesterday.
